Batch Distillation Columns

Flexible & Versatile Separation Technology

Batch Distillation Systems are highly flexible separation units used to purify or separate liquid mixtures in discrete batches. Unlike continuous systems, the entire feed is charged into the still at the beginning of the process. As heating begins, vapors rise through the column, condense, and are collected as different fractions according to their boiling points. These systems are ideal for small to medium production volumes, frequent product changeovers, and high-value or heat-sensitive materials. They are widely used in pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, essential oil, and solvent recovery industries. Batch distillation offers excellent control over purity and allows operators to collect multiple fractions from a single batch.

Common Batch Distillation Columns

Batch Rectifiers, Strippers & Pilot/Lab Scale Systems

Type Description Typical Applications
Batch Rectifier Operates with a reflux ratio to enrich the distillate. Produces high-purity top product by repeated vaporization and condensation. Solvent recovery, essential oils, pharmaceutical intermediates, high-purity alcohols
Batch Stripper Removes volatile components from the bottom product. Vapor is taken overhead while less volatile components remain in the still. Devolatilization, removal of solvents from heavy products, wastewater stripping
Pilot & Lab Scale Batch Systems Smaller capacity columns (5L – 500L) used for research, process development, and small-batch production. Highly flexible with interchangeable internals. R&D labs, universities, scale-up studies, specialty chemical production

Batch distillation columns offer excellent flexibility for varying feed compositions and small to medium production volumes, making them ideal for high-value and specialty products.

Batch Rectifier

batch rectifiers

A Batch Rectifier System is a type of batch distillation column designed to produce high-purity distillate. It operates with a reflux ratio, allowing repeated vaporization and condensation. The liquid mixture is charged into the still, heated, and the more volatile component is enriched at the top. Ideal for solvent recovery, pharmaceutical intermediates, essential oils, and high-purity alcohol production.

Stripper Column

Multi-Component Systems

A Multi-Component Distillation System separates complex mixtures containing three or more components into individual fractions based on their boiling points. Using fractionating columns with multiple stages, it can produce several high-purity products in a single operation. These systems are widely used in petroleum refining, petrochemicals, and specialty chemical industries for efficient separation of crude oil, solvents, and intermediate chemicals.

Pilot Batch Systems

pilot batch systems

Pilot Batch Systems are small-scale distillation units (typically 5L to 500L capacity) used for research, process development, and scale-up studies. They offer high flexibility with interchangeable columns, trays, or packing, allowing precise control over parameters. Ideal for laboratories, universities, and pilot plants in pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, and essential oils industries to test new processes before full-scale production.

Lab Scale Batch Systems

Lab Scale Batch Systems are compact distillation units designed for research, development, and small-scale testing. Typically ranging from 1L to 50L capacity, they offer excellent flexibility with interchangeable columns, trays, or packing. These systems allow precise control of temperature, reflux ratio, and vacuum, making them ideal for universities, R&D labs, and pilot studies in pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, and essential oils.
