Duplixe Bag Filter Housing – Automatic

Duplex Bag Filter Housing System (Automatic)

Duplex Bag Filter Housing System (Automatic)

Duplex bag filter housings (also called twin or dual bag filter systems) consist of two identical bag filter housings connected in parallel with automatic or manual switching valves. This design allows continuous, uninterrupted filtration: while one housing is in service filtering the liquid, the other is offline for bag replacement or maintenance. An automatic duplex system uses pressure sensors, timers, or PLC controls to switch flow automatically when one side reaches high differential pressure, ensuring zero downtime. These systems are ideal for high-continuity processes where shutdowns are costly or unacceptable — common in chemicals, food & beverage, water treatment, pharmaceuticals, and industrial cooling or process loops.

System Design & Key Components

Duplex bag filter housings feature two separate pressure vessels (each with its own basket and bag(s)), connected via inlet/outlet manifolds and automatic switching valves (typically butterfly, ball, or three-way valves). Each side has its own differential pressure gauge or transmitter. Automatic versions include a control panel with PLC, solenoids, or actuators that monitor ΔP and switch flow when one side is fouled. Manual versions use simple valve handles. Housings are built from stainless steel, carbon steel, or plastic with quick-access lids for fast bag changes.

Key feature: True continuous operation — flow never stops during bag replacement on one side.

Filtration & Switching Process

The typical operating sequence for an automatic duplex bag filter housing includes:

  1. Startup — Both housings start clean; flow begins through Housing A while Housing B remains isolated.
  2. Normal Operation — Liquid flows through active housing (A); solids accumulate in its bag(s) while filtrate exits.
  3. Monitoring & Trigger — Differential pressure rises on Housing A. When it reaches setpoint (e.g., 1–2 bar), the control system automatically switches flow to Housing B.
  4. Bag Replacement on Offline Side — Housing A is isolated; operators depressurize it, open the lid, replace bags, clean if needed, and reseal.
  5. Continuous Cycling — Once Housing A is back online (clean), the system can switch back when Housing B fouls — ensuring 24/7 filtration without interruption.
