Hemp Oil Recovery

Hemp oil recovery, or Cannabis, has been around for many years and is believed to have originated in South or Central Asia. The two primary types of cannabis are Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica. Both contain varying amounts of psychoactive and non-psychoactive components. People commonly associate Cannabis sativa with stimulating, mental effects, while they link Cannabis indica with relaxing, body-calming effects.

Key Compounds in Cannabis

In recent decades, breeders have developed most strains to increase the amount of the primary psychoactive component, (-)-trans-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). In the previous decade, scientists have increasingly focused on the health benefits of another compound found in both plants, known as cannabidiol (CBD). Furthermore, people use CBD, a non-psychoactive component of the cannabis plant, to address a range of therapeutic conditions.

It’s vital to realize that even though THC and CBD are the most researched parts of cannabis, there are numerous more synthetic compounds found inside the plant, for example, cannabigerol (CBG), cannabichromene (CBC), cannabidivarin (CBDV), tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), terpenes, and flavonoids. While there is still much to learn about these different synthetic compounds, researchers in Israel have found that whole-plant cannabis extracts that contain these various synthetic compounds are more useful than isolated extracts that contain only CBD or THC.

What’s in Hemp Oil Recovery?

As detailed already, hemp oil recovery in the United States refers to the oil extracted from the stalk of the hemp plant. Additionally, the extraction procedure involves using a solvent to extract the oil from the hemp stalk. Finally, various solvents are used commercially, each with its own advantages and downsides.

Recovery Extraction Strategies

CO2 Extraction

In this extraction strategy, the hemp is exposed to high-pressure, low-temperature CO2 gas, which detaches and preserves the cannabinoids in the oil. In addition, the downsides include slow extraction time and high production costs. Furthermore, this means that these products will be on the more costly end.

Ethanol Extraction

Ethanol extraction remains safe and nontoxic when used in small amounts. Also, the principal disadvantage is that ethanol extraction destroys the plant waxes, which in some cases have medical benefits.

Olive Oil Extraction

Olive oil offers safety and cost-effectiveness while providing numerous health benefits, ranging from reducing inflammation to boosting immunity.

Butane or Hexane Extraction

These solvents do an excellent job of extracting the cannabinoids from hemp. However, some remain after the extraction procedure and are potentially harmful to your lungs.
