Centrifuges

Bowl Centrifuge

High-Speed Clarification & Separation Technology

A Bowl Centrifuge, also known as a tubular bowl or disc-stack centrifuge, is a high-speed separation device that generates powerful centrifugal forces (8,000 – 15,000 g). It is designed for efficient clarification and polishing of liquids with low solid content. The feed enters the rotating bowl, where denser solids or heavier liquids are thrown outward to the bowl wall, while the clarified liquid exits from the center.

These centrifuges excel in applications requiring high clarity, such as pharmaceutical cell harvesting, protein separation, beverage clarification, edible oil polishing, and fine chemical processing.

Their compact design, exceptional separation performance, and ability to deliver very low residual solids make bowl centrifuges the preferred choice for high-value, low-solid clarification processes across biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and food industries.

Decanter Centrifuge

High-Solids Continuous Separation Technology

A Decanter Centrifuge, also known as a horizontal scroll centrifuge, is a highly versatile solid-liquid separation machine designed for continuous operation with high solids content. It uses a combination of high centrifugal force (2,000 – 4,500 g) and a rotating screw conveyor (scroll) inside a conical bowl to continuously separate solids from liquids.

The feed slurry enters the rotating bowl, where centrifugal force pushes heavier solids to the bowl wall. The scroll then conveys the dewatered solids toward the discharge end, while the clarified liquid overflows from the opposite end. This design makes decanter centrifuges ideal for handling high-solid slurries that bowl centrifuges cannot process efficiently.

They are widely used in wastewater treatment, biodiesel production (glycerol separation), edible oil processing, mining, chemical sludge dewatering, and food industries. Decanters offer continuous operation, high throughput, and excellent cake dryness, making them the preferred choice for heavy-duty industrial solid-liquid separation.

Centrifuges in Process Industries

Solid-Liquid Separation Technology

Centrifuges are high-speed mechanical devices that use centrifugal force to separate solids from liquids or two immiscible liquids. They are widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, food, biofuel, and wastewater industries for clarification, dewatering, and classification.

Bowl Centrifuge vs Decanter Centrifuge

Parameter Bowl Centrifuge Decanter Centrifuge
Design Type Tubular or Disc Stack Bowl Horizontal Scroll Decanter
Separation Principle High G-force sedimentation Scroll conveyance + sedimentation
G-Force 8,000 – 15,000 g 2,000 – 4,500 g
Solids Handling Low solids content (< 5%) High solids content (up to 60%)
Continuous Operation Mostly batch / semi-continuous Fully continuous
Best For Clarification, polishing, cell harvesting Sludge dewatering, oil-water-solids separation
Typical Industries Pharmaceutical, biotech, beverages Wastewater, biodiesel, mining, food processing

Summary: Bowl centrifuges excel in high-clarity polishing of low-solid liquids, while Decanter centrifuges are preferred for continuous dewatering of high-solid slurries.
