Industries

SRS International delivers advanced separation and purification technologies to the most demanding renewable fuel and bio-based industries. Our equipment helps producers achieve higher purity, better yields, lower energy use, and compliance with the strictest standards — including ASTM, EN, and CARB requirements. We serve four major sectors where our distillation, filtration, evaporation, and crystallization systems make a transformative difference.

Renewable Diesel

Renewable Diesel is the next generation of renewable fuel. It has the same chemical and physical properties as petroleum diesel, enabling seamless use in existing pipelines, storage tanks, pumps, and engines. According to California’s Air Resources Board (CARB), it consistently achieves one of the lowest carbon intensities among renewable fuels.

Renewable Diesel Specifications (ASTM D975 compliant)

  • Ultra-low sulfur (<15 ppm)
  • High cetane (70–90+) for smoother combustion
  • Excellent cold flow properties
  • High thermal and oxidation stability
  • Matches petroleum diesel energy density and MPG
  • Low aromatics and impurities
Why it matters: Renewable Diesel is a true drop-in replacement that qualifies for tax credits while delivering superior performance and significantly lower GHG emissions.

Biodiesel

Biodiesel (fatty acid methyl esters or FAME) is produced via transesterification of oils and fats. SRS offers advanced distillation, filtration, and purification systems to remove excess methanol, glycerol, soaps, and impurities — resulting in ASTM D6751-compliant biodiesel with excellent cold-soak filterability.

  • Removes methanol and glycerol for superior fuel quality
  • Improves cold soak filterability (ASTM D7501 compliance)
  • Reduces sulfur in high-sulfur feedstocks
  • Eliminates need for additional washing
  • Maintains full $1/gallon tax credit eligibility
Why it matters: Distillation turns variable crude biodiesel into a consistent, high-performance product that meets engine manufacturer and fleet requirements.

Hemp Oil

Hemp oil production requires gentle, high-efficiency separation to preserve valuable cannabinoids, terpenes, and other bioactive compounds. SRS systems — including wiped film, short path, and falling film evaporators — enable precise solvent removal, winterization, and distillation under low temperature and vacuum conditions.

  • Short residence time prevents degradation of CBD, CBG, terpenes
  • High-purity solvent recovery (ethanol, hexane) for cost savings
  • Effective winterization and polishing to remove waxes and lipids
  • Scalable from lab to commercial production
  • Compliant with food-grade and pharmaceutical standards
Why it matters: Hemp oil producers need to retain full-spectrum potency and aroma while meeting regulatory purity requirements — SRS evaporation and distillation systems deliver both.

Glycerin Purification

Glycerin (glycerol) is a valuable co-product of biodiesel and oleochemical production. SRS evaporator crystallizers, distillation, and filtration systems purify crude glycerin by removing water, salts, methanol, fatty acids, and color bodies.

  • High-purity glycerin (>99.7%) from crude streams
  • Effective removal of methanol, salts, and MONG
  • Evaporator crystallizers produce pure salt by-products
  • Multi-effect or MVR designs minimize energy use
  • Turns a low-value by-product into a high-margin revenue stream
Why it matters: Purified glycerin commands premium pricing and opens new markets — SRS systems maximize recovery and quality while minimizing waste.
